Uncontainable 2

This choreographic project, in association with Kaaitheater from Brussels and with support from Hapag-Lloyd,

was first organised two years ago and proved an instant success for the Royal Ballet of Flanders.

A professional jury selected five talented choreographers from a list of over a hundred applicants.

The choreographers are:

- Craig Davidson (Australier - danser bij het KBvV) - Trittico

- Mauro De Candia (Italiaan) - Stillness of an Empty Move

- Jonas Vlerick (Belg - danser bij het KBvV) - Missing Pieces
- Terence Kohler (Duitser/Australier) - 11:11

- André Mesquita (Portugees) - Echoes from Elsewhere

They were given an opportunity to work for a whole month on a new choreography with the dancers of

the Royal Ballet of Flanders. The pieces were subsequently performed at Kaaitheater in Brussels before an

international jury whose task it was to choose the winner of the Hapag-Lloyd Award for upcoming choreographic talent.

The jury, under the presidency of Kathryn Bennetts, the artistic director of the Royal Ballet of Flanders, noted that the standard of work was very high. This positive assessment, and the company’s commitment to balletic innovation and

the encouragement of young talent, led to the decision to organise a second edition of Uncontainable.

Once again, a jury will select a shortlist of five candidates from a large international group of young choreographers who will be given an opportunity to create their piece with on dancers of the Royal Ballet of Flanders.

The five choreographies will be created during the coming season at the company’s theatre in Antwerp.

The eventual laureate will be chosen by an international jury.

Uncontainable is an absolute must for enthusiasts of new and innovative ballet. Here is a unique opportunity to see the work of five young choreographers from around the world and to give these upcoming talents some encouragement. Who knows, Uncontainable 2 may feature the choreographic genius of the next decade.
