14 June 2008, Lucent Danstheater, The Hague, The Netherlands

A varied evening of ballet with four choreographies, including
three world creations.
One of the three creations is the work of Finnish choreographer
Jorma Elo, a rapidly rising star in the choreography firma-ment.
As a choreographer he developed his own unique, distinctive style
with a great deal of movement from the torso.
In her summary of the 2004 ballet year, Anna Kisselgoff
referred to Jorma Elo in The New York Times as ‘a talent to
follow’. She hit the nail on the head. In a short space of time
he became one of the most sought-after choreographers in the
United States and Europe. He has a creation set to music by
Bernard Hermann in store for the Royal Ballet of Flanders.
This famous film composer composed the music for such films
as North by Northwest, Vertigo and Psycho by Alfred Hitchcock
and it is these films that will set the tone of the ballet.
The two winners of the Uncontainable choreography project of
he 2005-2006 season, Cayetano Soto and Matteo Moles, have
been invited to each create their own ballet. By doing so the
Royal Ballet of Flanders wishes to go further in its support
for young choreographers than merely awarding them a prize.
The Spaniard and the Italian are now given the chance to
develop their skills with two of their own creations.
William Forsythe is also on the programme. Herman Schmerman
is one of his spectacular works set to music by his faithful
partner-composer Thom Willems. He created the first part for
the New York City Ballet. The second part, a pas de deux, was
for Ballett Frankfurt.
